Surreal. That’s how I would describe this past month. Long before I even applied to be a Sony Alpha Female, this project had been a clear vision on my horizon — and, now I know it’s within my grasp.
Talking with Jean (my mentor) has been a total and invaluable paradigm shift. How to go to a new market, what’s possible, what’s allowed: all my mental barriers in getting this accomplished are being smashed down.
In preparation for the Alpha Female application process, I did quite a bit of market analysis: honing down where to ideally expand first, examining the feasibility, the cost-efficiency. Having had that opportunity to clarify my vision ahead of time, brand-building advertising is already underway to tighten that consumer analysis for the next phase of the launch! In addition, we’ve filmed a promo video, as well as several social media shorts.
What I’ve been completely caught off guard by this past month is the outcry of support I’ve received from friends and clients after my residency was announced. Many are already reaching out to help with connections and contacts as we start our expansion.
Like so many creatives, I struggle with the emotional reality of confronting such a big project. The self-doubt. The waiting. The instinctive desire to cancel everything else, rush in, and just get it done. To that end, the best thing that this experience has already given me is accountability. Accountability not to get ahead of myself. Accountability not to give up, or put it off for another year. Accountability and permission to finally go out and receive the support from everyone who wants to help me make this dream come true.
Here’s a sneak peek of the video to come!
