Who we are

Monica Sigmon opened her Williamsburg studio in 2000 and quickly built a successful business with a reputation for excellence and cutting-edge imagery. She has earned the reputation for providing entertaining programs that focus on marketing and building your brand; energizing seasoned studio owners and inspiring new photographers alike. She has earned the prestigious Craftsman and Master’s Degrees from the Professional Photographers of America. Monica has also had the honor of being named Kodak’s Photographer to Watch.

Michael Taylor owned a studio in Pasadena, California for over twenty years, is a past president of the Professional Photographers of America (a 23,000 member association), and has given over 400 seminars including 30 international speaking engagements in Japan, Philippines, Korea, England, Canada, Mexico and Italy. His distinguished portfolio includes portraiture of Gerald Ford, Marlo Thomas, Carol Channing, Johnny Cash, and Jerry Lee Lewis. In addition to his portrait work at Sigmon Taylor Photography, Michael has established a wide body of work and diverse clientèle with our Commercial division, bringing personality and heart to imagery for companies across the country. Michael’s national clients include Eastman Kodak, Epson, Prophoto and Mamiya Cameras. Locally, he does extensive work for Riverside Health Systems, Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center, House and Home Magazine, and many more. Click here to see more of his work.

Both Monica and Michael are award-winning photographic artists, best-known for their fresh, innovative signature style that represent their clients with emotion and honesty.  They joined their amazing talents together ten years ago and own the premier photography studio in the Williamsburg/Hampton Roads area.  They specialize in family, children’s and pet portraiture, as well as commercial photography.  Additionally, they are involved in several charitable causes in the area and founded the Women With A Cause and Grove Summer of Love projects, both serving to bring awareness to local organizations in need.

Our philosophy

We believe in the power of a portrait.

What others are saying

We first met Monica 15 years ago. When I saw the proofs, I knew we had stumbled onto someone special! I LOVED every one of them! Since then, I have had the pleasure of working with both Monica and Michael. The studio has photographed all of our special milestones- my parents’ 50th wedding anniversary, each child’s senior portrait, and lots of Christmas cards/portrait gifts. The end result is always so much more than I could ever hope for. Monica and Michael have so much warmth and energy during a session that it is always a fun day- even our dogs enjoy it! What sets their work apart from the other photographers we have used is the lighting, and their ability to anticipate the very slight changes in a face as someone smiles. They can capture that perfect moment and it is true portrait art. I recommend Monica and Michael all of the time, and have enjoyed giving gift certificates to friends and family for portrait sessions. I love hearing how our friends have enjoyed working with the studio as much as we have!!
